Waste and Recycling

Council's Waste and Recycling services include domestic collections for general waste and recyclables, tip (landfill) operations and hard waste collections. Council has commenced an Organic and Green Waste collection in Coolamon with a vision to roll this scheme out Shire-wide in the future. An E-waste facility is now available at the Coolamon Tip (Landfill).

Garbage and Recycling Collection

Need to know what day your household waste or recycling bin is collected? Want to find out what to put in each bin? Looking for a copy of the Domestic Waste Collection Calendar? Well you have come to the right place!

Each of the Shire's towns and villages are serviced by a weekly domestic waste collection and a fortnightly recycling collection.

The REROC Recycle Night? Recycle Right! campaign emphasises the importance of recycling right and explains the process of recycling. The project involves a number of radio, television and newspaper advertisements and a dedicated website. The website can be viewed by clicking on the following link www.recyclenight.org.au.

Kerbside Collection

Domestic Waste, Recycling and Organics & Green Waste (Coolamon & Ganmain only) are collected within defined scavenging areas on a weekly (waste) and fortnightly (recycling and organics & green waste) basis throughout the Shire. All garbage receptacles are required to be placed on the street kerb the night before the nominated collection day.

Garbage Tips

Council operates garbage tips (landfills) in Ardlethan, Ganmain and Marrar, We have a Transfer Station in Coolamon.

Coolamon Shire Councils rates notices include a waste charge which allows residents of the Shire to deposit domestic waste at the landfill sites, certain items will attract extra charges, as per the Coolamon Shire fees and charges schedule.

Whilst a service charge will be imposed on residents for use of the Transfer Station, it should be noted that residents will still have the opportunity to use, free of charges (for applicable waste streams), both Ganmain and Marrar Landfills which are located approximately 10 minutes from Coolamon.

In order to ensure that the creation of a Transfer Station and provision of a facility is available for residents of the Coolamon community, a waste disposal fee for use of the Transfer Station is required to be charged. The disposal charge for domestic waste/recycling for residents who elect to use the Transfer Station is proposed at $30.00 per m3 or part thereof or $15.00 per 140L waste bin containing domestic household waste.

Non-residents can also access the landfill sites, however, will be charged a fee for such a service. Fees will be charged to all landfill users (residents and non-residents) disposing of commercial and or builders waste/rubble, asbestos, mattresses/non-recyclable furniture, car tyres and animal bodies. Due to Council being required to manage their disposal of these problem waste streams, such fees are charged on a fee recover basis.

Residents and non-residents using Councils landfill sites where a charge is incurred are required to make payment on site, at the respective facility, at the time deposition of waste this can be done via cash or EFT.

Fees are charged in accordance with Councils adopted schedule of fees and charges – updated annually.

Landfill Opening Hours and Waste Streams

Garbage Tips (Landfills) and Transfer Stations are generally closed on Public Holidays - Please check with Council for any amendments to these hours;

Designated recycling bins are located at all landfill sites and users are encouraged to sort recyclables accordingly. This helps to divert waste from landfill, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and extending the life of landfill resources.

All sites offer disposal of greenwaste, scrap metal, used batteries, timber, building and demolition waste.

The Ardlethan and Coolamon sites have been DrumMUSTER accredited and collection of recycled drums take place all year round subject to opening hours. Waste oil recycling facilities are also provided for residents at the Ardlethan and Coolamon sites.
